Need some help getting started with the wedding DJ process?
Hiring the right wedding DJ in San Antonio is critical to planning your dream wedding. On the other hand, it can also be absolutely stressful.
First, let me say that this may not be an easy task. Deciding whom to hire is hard work and it’s totally normal for couples to be confused and stressed out.
It’s not like you plan a wedding every day. This is all new stuff, so be patient with yourself.
As someone who’s gone through the whole wedding planning experience, I know how important it is for your wedding to be perfect. So when you’re searching for a wedding DJ in San Antonio, it’s paramount that you begin by asking the right questions.
Check out my list of 8 must ask questions to help you find the right wedding DJ.
- Are you available on my wedding date?
This should be the very first question you ask before going any further. After all, it makes no sense to ask any other questions if the DJ is already booked.
- How many weddings do you do per year? How much experience do you have?
Ideally, the wedding DJ professional should have ample experience specifically for weddings. To find a wedding DJ in San Antonio with extensive experience in both ceremonies and receptions is rare, but they do exist. Not only should they be skilled in their craft, they should also be a valuable resource of information and provide assurance that your wedding reception will run smoothly.
- How much do you cost?
Most people make a big mistake when thinking about DJ pricing. Couples think a wedding DJ in San Antonio is just a commodity and not really a professional service. But, if you think about it for a second, a DJ will actually be one of the most important factors of your wedding reception. When you start factoring in experience, reputation and expert skill, the price is often relative. Some of the more talented DJ professionals will charge a bit more because they have the technical skill, sensitivity, motivational ability, music programming savvy and announcing skills to do a professional job. Their service will warrant a premium fee.
- How much is the deposit?
The wedding DJ will usually require a percentage of the fee or a specified down payment to secure the date. Here at Starlight, our deposit is only $100 to secure and book the date. The remaining balance is due on or before your wedding day. Whichever is convenient for you.
- What specifically is included in the cost?
Because most wedding DJs offer services through packages, these packages often vary from DJ to DJ. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to compare one DJ to another without first doing a little homework. The lowest cost isn’t always the best deal. Some higher quotes include services that you would have to pay extra for in other packages. Make sure you take this into account.
- What happens if I cancel?
Find out if your deposit is refundable under any conditions. Most couples probably don’t think about this. Why would you want to even consider your wedding being canceled? But it does happen. Incidentally, find out if the DJ has a backup plan if something happens to him! Usually, all of these stipulations are outlined in a contract.
- Do you use a contract?
Ask for a contract. If the DJ doesn’t use contracts, then RUN! A contract is designed to protect you and the wedding DJ. Don’t settle for a verbal agreement that won’t hold up in court.
- Are there any additional fees?
Taxes, service charges, and travel fees can add up quickly. Make sure you understand exactly what is included. There should be a breakdown of any additional fees you’ll have to pay. Some DJs charge extra for things like going up a flight of stairs, traveling more than 25 miles, providing services in questionable locations. These things should be clearly defined in your contract.
These 8 questions should get you started in the right direction. What you may find out is that a lot of DJs are the same. They play music and make a few announcements. What sets Starlight apart from the others is that our service also helps you design the perfect reception. And if you need music for your ceremony, we help you design that too.
I believe our services are a super important part of the wedding celebration overall. Here’s why:
Unlike other wedding vendors and services you will contract, (like the florist and cake makers who drop off their designs and leave long before anyone arrives; the caterer who’s sole focus is manning the kitchen and serving up tasty food; the photographer who is, most of the time, working to snap that perfect shot of the couple; the officiant who performs the ceremony and possibly might stay for dinner but leaves right after; etc.) out of all these wedding professionals, who is the one wedding pro that is constant throughout the entire reception? Who visually do your guests look to for acceptance, information, guidance, and closure?
Only the wedding DJ and MC professional.
