San Antonio Wedding Ceremony Music Samples You Can Listen To

Should you have traditional or modern music for you’re San Antonio wedding ceremony?

If you’re thinking about having a traditional wedding ceremony the standard music of choice is classical. For years, the gold standard has been classical music such as Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” for traditional wedding ceremony music. When you walk down the aisle to classical music pieces such as these, they can make you feel like your living the life of royalty.

If you have the budget for a local San Antonio wedding musician, a string quartet or trumpet section can provide an exceptional experience. But not every musician can pull off a wedding ceremony - especially if you’d like to get away from the traditional feel. More than half of my clients hire me to provide music for their ceremony so they can add their own personal tastes and choose music they like.

Whether your leaning toward traditional or modern songs for your San Antonio wedding ceremony, walking down the aisle on your wedding day is an important moment. Now would be a good time to start thinking about music for your ceremony plans. And if you can’t start now, make a mental note or better yet, put a note in your planner.

Here are some samples to consider. Listen to these wedding ceremony songs:

Let’s go ahead break down some of the parts in you’re wedding ceremony you may want music for.

Wedding Prelude Music

Many couples have trouble selecting music for the prelude portion of the ceremony. Typically 20 to 30 minutes before the ceremony begins, prelude music sets the mood while guest find their seats. If you don’t have specific songs in mind for the prelude you can ask your musician or DJ for suggestions. Usually a mix of instrumentals with a variety of musical styles is what I would suggest. Here are a few selections to consider:

The Groom’s Entrance Song

You don’t really see this at many weddings, but it can be a fun way to start your ceremony. And why not - the groom is getting married to! Again, as suggested above, this is another way of personalizing the music. Here we are choosing a song that plays as the groom enters the wedding ceremony with the officiant along with his best man and/or groomsmen. Movie themes seem to be a popular choice for this. Imagine the James Bond Theme or the Rocky Theme (Gonna Fly Now) playing in the background as the men come down the isle. How about the theme song from the TV show, The Dukes of Hazard by Waylon Jennings? We can also play songs for rockers. Back in Black by AC/DC will do nicely. A few years back I had a groom choose the song “Under Pressure” by Queen. This can work nicely and get some cheers from guests when the groom is looking obviously nervous. Here is a short list of songs couples have requested in the past. For a more extensive list, check out one of my favorite blog posts - processional songs for grooms.

Here Comes the Bride Wedding Ceremony Music

Usually different musical selections are played as the bridesmaids and the bride enter the ceremony site. The standard choice for most brides as they enter the ceremony has been the Bridal Chorus by Wagner, which is also known as Here Comes The Bride. This piece is often played on an organ, but there are more modern arrangements available. Check out these two of my personal favorites. Same song, different composers.

Music for Lighting the Unity Candle

This event usually takes place right after the vows and is a symbolic act representing your new union as husband and wife. There are 3 candles setup. The two outer candles each represent the bride and groom. The bride lights one and the groom lights one. Then together, they each take their lit candle and light the center unity candle. You can even ask your mothers to get involved by having them light the two outer candles, which you will use later to light the unity candle. This is a great moment for a special song to be played in the background. The usual song of choice is Ave Maria. But of course, if you’re personalizing your wedding ceremony, you can pick something that matches your music style.

Wedding Ceremony Recessional Songs

After you’ve been pronounced as husband and wife it’s time to walk back down the aisle again. This time the opposite way – that is, away from the Alter. There is no law that says the music has to be upbeat. You can choose traditional or if you want something with a bit more energy there are plenty of songs to choose from. Here are a few to consider:

Have Someone Sing a Special Song

When my wife and I got married we had a family member on her side of the family who wanted to sing a special song for us. His specialty was Mariachi music, but his voice was so smooth he could probably sing just about anything. If you have a close friend or family member who loves to sing this could be an opportunity to let them play an important part in your wedding ceremony music.

Modern Wedding Ceremony Music

More and more soon-to-be newlyweds are looking for wedding music that is unique to their own personal style. Couples also look for music that speaks to them and that symbolizes their relationship. Modern wedding ceremony music is becoming more and more popular.

From my experience most of the ceremony music choices come from the bride and groom’s own research. The song selections can sometimes be traditional or might come from personal taste. On November 25th, 2017 I had the pleasure of being a part of Andre and Miranda Gonzales’ wedding. I provided music for their ceremony and reception. Here is their take on the perfect wedding ceremony:

Prelude

As guests were waiting for the ceremony to begin these two songs were looped for continuous play.
